Do you have a heart for your Church family?
The Church Stewards have been reviewing how we as a Church family look after one another. At present the system relies on our stewards being made aware of any pastoral needs there might be. Clearly, this puts a lot of responsibility on our Stewards and this role may well be better fulfilled by other people: someone like you, reading this perhaps?
We are now appealing for volunteers to form a team of Pastoral Visitors. You would be expected to take responsibility for 5-10 Church members and visit them as is appropriate to their need, and pass on any pastoral needs or concerns you have to the Stewards and the Minister. You would also be expected to pray for the people on your "list" regularly.
Please consider yourself as serving your Church in this way. Any time you have to give to this role will help, you will be able to shape the way you approach this job according to the time you have available!
If you want to become a Pastoral Visitor, or want more information, please speak to any of your Stewards or Dan.

Minister's Letter
Dear friends,
I recently read of a Church group who had been reading and studying some of the books of the latter prophets in the Old Testament. Eventually, they had arrived at Malachi and despite being so close to finishing their course, the group had found themselves decidedly stuck and not a little baffled as they read through the book.
They had read of God's messenger that "he is like a refiner's fire and like fuller's soap; he will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver." (Malachi 3:1-3)
The group found themselves at a loss trying to understand what Malachi was trying to tell them about the nature of God, or about how God deals with his people. Finally, one of them had a bright idea; they would find and invite a silversmith to their next meeting to help them understand the imagery being used.
The next meeting came and light finally dawned upon the group. The silversmith described his work; how to refine and purify silver he had to sit at the hottest part of the fire and hold the silver in the flame. He explained to the group that if silver is left in the heat for a moment too long it is destroyed, worthless and wasted. The art, he said, was to remove the silver from the heat at just the right moment.
Fascinated by this, one of the group asked how the silversmith could know when the right moment had come and he replied that there was actually a very simple method. He knew the silver was refined when he could see his own image in it. Then he knew to remove it from the fire.
The group grasped at last what Malachi had showed them about God. We may well face testing times, we might know the heat of the fire; but we are assured that the Lord watches over us, holds onto us and is ready to remove us from those things only when his image is made visible in us.
Peace,
Dan
